Evergreen - Home Education
Evergreen is our Home Education provision based at Little Muddy Me, an entirely outdoor setting located on the edge of Bray Lake within a beautiful half-acre woodland.
Evergreen is specifically for children who are de-registered from school and registered as home educated. We work with the home education team at the local authority.
Our provision offers children the opportunity to learn, play and grow through meaningful experiences in nature. Children benefit from spending time with peers in a welcoming and supportive environment, building friendships and developing social skills through shared experiences, play and exploration. Throughout the day, there are opportunities to integrate with our preschool community and take part in activities tailored to individual needs and interests.
A typical day begins with free play as children arrive, followed by a morning group check-in where we come together to share news, discuss the day ahead and build connections. We usually offer two planned activities each day, linked to seasonal changes, environmental awareness, practical skills or children's interests. These may include natural ink making, campfire cooking, learning about bees and pollinators, exploring local flora and fauna, nature crafts and hands-on activities inspired by the natural world.
The remainder of the day is spent enjoying child-led play and exploration within the woodland environment. Children have opportunities to develop a wide range of practical forest skills, including:
- Learning about local flora and fauna
- Safe tool use, including knife safety, bow saws and hammering
- Woodworking and craft skills
- Fire lighting and campfire safety
- Outdoor cooking
- Knot tying, shelter building and den making
- Creating crafts from natural materials
- Imaginative, adventurous and collaborative play in a natural environment
Regular walks around Bray Lake and visits to nearby woodland areas provide further opportunities for exploration, observation and learning. We often enjoy lunch by the lakeside or in the woods, taking time to appreciate and connect with the natural environment around us.
Our approach places a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing, self-esteem, risk awareness, physical development, and problem-solving skills. Learning is child-centred and interest-led, with adults working alongside children in a holistic approach that values curiosity, creativity and personal growth.
We are not a school and do not follow the National Curriculum. We are passionate about fostering a lifelong connection with nature, while supporting children to develop confidence, resilience, independence and practical life skills.
At Evergreen Home Ed, we believe some of the most meaningful experiences happen through curiosity, play, exploration and real-life experiences in the natural world. Our aim is to provide children with the time, space and support to develop confidence, build lasting
friendships and engage in nature in a way that feels natural, enjoyable and meaningful.
